brigglez  > Nature > Vegie Patch 07/08
October 2007 - we decided it was time to put in a vegie "patch" instead of just planting vegies in amongst the roses - not that there was a problem with planting among the roses - we'd just run out of space! anyway, one vegie patch turned into three - plus we have planted pumpkins further down the backyard! we have plans to probably add a few more patches in future to add some extra vegies, and to be able to "rotate" the vegies for the best outcome year after year. This will be something of a photo journal of the vegie gardens and their progress. will add more as we take more piccies (or as i get time - have more to add now, but my computer runs far too slowly, so need to upload when i dont need to use the computer for anything else!)

brigglez > garden bed number 1 - planted in October 2007 - we planted in this one seedlings only - capsicum, zucchini, lettuce, cucumber, and a couple of varieties of tomato.

brigglez > garden bed number 2 - planted mid november 2007. tomato's (normal, cherry, mini roma) pea seedlings, brocolli, baby sweet corn and onion
brigglez > garden bed number 3 - day of planting (early december 2007) - this one has carrots, spring onions, cauliflower, rockmelon and watermelon (seedlings) and two rows each of peas and beans. we lost the carrots, spring onions and watermelon seedlings within a week - think an animal got to them - we eventually replanted with new watermelon seedlings and leek seedlings - didn't worry about carrots again this year...
brigglez > vegies patches as seen from the bottom garden bed on planting day
brigglez > the view from the bottom of the existing vegie patches - taken start of January 2008 - the third garden bed didn't thrive as much as the earlier ones - the carrots, rockmelon and pring onion seedlings went missing very early on - they didn't die, they just disappeared, so i'm blaming critters!
brigglez > pumpkin seedlings - planted November 2007 - 6 seedlings planted, only 2 grew. pic taken about 6 weeks after planting
brigglez > garden bed 1 - approximately nine weeks after planting
